Juraj Filas taught composition at the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts for over 36 years. His acclaimed works have been performed globally, including at Carnegie Hall. His television opera Cancer of the Will received the prestigious Jakobs Suchard Award in Salzburg. Renowned artists such as Ivan Ženatý, Otto Sauter, Joseph Alessi, and James Gourlay have performed his compositions. Professor Filas passed away in 2021 due to COVID-19.

 

This memorial concert features selected chamber and vocal works spanning from the 1980s to recent years, honoring what would have been his 70th birthday. Leading Czech soloists and HAMU faculty and students will perform, with support from the OSA Partnership.
