Juraj Filas Memorial Mass (November 2022)
Juraj Filas (1955–2021), among the most distinguished Czech and Slovak composers of his generation, was celebrated with a Memorial Mass at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola in New York City. Filas was notably the first living composer since 1959 to have works performed at Carnegie Hall, receiving international acclaim for his extensive catalogue spanning over 120 compositions, including symphonies, operas, and chamber music. The Memorial Mass featured renowned artists Joseph Alessi (trombone, NY Philharmonic), Susanna Phillips (soprano, MET), Matthew Plenk (tenor, MET), Otto Sauter (trumpet), Kent Tritle (organist and conductor, NY Philharmonic), and Lukáš DvoÅ™ák (organ).
